Tamattu and Qiran Hajj are both types of pilgrimage that involve performing Umrah and Hajj within the same year. However, there are significant differences between these two forms of Hajj:
Tamattu Hajj:
- Separate Ihram: In Tamattu Hajj, Umrah and Hajj are performed with separate ihrams (sacred garments).
- Breaking Ihram: After completing Umrah, the pilgrim can exit ihram and return to normal life.
- Re-entering Ihram: Pilgrims re-enter ihram during the Hajj months to perform the Hajj rituals.
- Obligatory Sacrifice: It is mandatory (wajib) for those performing Tamattu Hajj to offer a shukr (gratitude) sacrifice.
Qiran Hajj:
- Single Ihram: In Qiran Hajj, Umrah and Hajj are performed with a single ihram.
- No Breaking Ihram: After completing the Umrah rituals, the pilgrim does not exit ihram and remains in this state until completing Hajj.
- Obligatory Sacrifice: Similar to Tamattu Hajj, those performing Qiran Hajj are also required to offer a shukr sacrifice.
Summary:
- Ihrams: Tamattu Hajj involves two separate ihrams, while Qiran Hajj uses one ihram for both rituals.
- Breaking Ihram: Pilgrims in Tamattu Hajj exit ihram after Umrah; those in Qiran Hajj remain in ihram until completing Hajj.
- Sacrifice: Both types of Hajj require the offering of a shukr sacrifice.
Additional Information:
- Virtue: Qiran Hajj is generally considered more virtuous than Tamattu Hajj.
- Applicability: Both types of Hajj are applicable to those living outside the mikat boundaries (afaki). However, residents within the mikat boundaries (Harem) are only permitted to perform Ifrad Hajj.
