Is Sa’y Mandatory in Umrah?
Yes, performing sa’y in Umrah is considered vacip. Sa’y consists of walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. This act of worship commemorates the desperate search of Hz. Hacer for water for her son Hz. İsmail as she ran between these two hills.
Obligations of Sa’y:
- Performing Sa’y on foot: Those who are unable to walk or do not have the strength may use a wheelchair.
- Completing Sa’y in seven circuits.
Sunnah of Sa’y:
- Starting Sa’y immediately after completing tawaf and praying the tawaf prayer.
- Purification from any impurities (necasetten taharet).
- Purification from minor ritual impurity (hadesten taharet).
- Touching Hacer-ül Esved while going towards sa’y.
- Ascending to a place where the Kaaba can be seen at both Safa and Marwah hills.
- Turning towards the Kaaba at Safa and Marwah to say takbir, tahleel, and make supplications.
- Running (hervele) between the two green markers for men and walking slowly in other sections.
- Completing all circuits without interruption.
- Engaging in takbir, tahleel, and supplication during sa’y.
