Nusuk sorts Hajj packages into six categories: Luxury, Premium and Standard, each with or without shifting.
The category is set by hotel star rating, whether you change hotels in Makkah, and a minimum stay. It doesn’t fix your Mina camp, your Makkah zone or your room: those are chosen package by package. As of 10 October 2026 the platform still shows the categories published for the 1447 (2026) season; categories for Hajj 2027 haven’t been announced.

If you’re comparing Hajj 2027 options from the US or Canada, you’ll meet two sets of names. Nusuk, the Saudi platform where Hajj packages are sold and paid for, uses its own category names. Operators like us give our packages names of our own, and you can see how ours line up with the Nusuk categories on our Hajj 2027 packages page. This guide explains the Nusuk side first, using only what the platform itself publishes, so you can read any operator’s listing with the right questions in hand.
The Six Nusuk Categories at a Glance
Nusuk’s Packages & Categories page says it designed “standardized package categories” so pilgrims can compare offers that otherwise differ in many ways. For the 1447 season it lists six. The table below copies the hotel ratings and minimum durations exactly as the category cards show them.
| Nusuk category | Makkah hotel | Second Makkah stay (shifting) | Madinah hotel | Minimum stay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury | 5-star | — | 5-star | 10 days |
| Premium | 4-star | — | 4-star | 10 days |
| Standard | 3-star or residential building | — | 3-star or residential building | 14 days |
| Luxury Shifting | 5-star | 5-star, 4-star or residential building | 5-star | 14 days |
| Premium Shifting | 4-star | 4-star, 3-star or residential building | 4-star | 14 days |
| Standard Shifting | 3-star or residential building | 3-star or residential building | 3-star or residential building | 14 days |
Swipe the table sideways to see every column. Every one of the six cards lists the same Mina camp line: Majar Al-Kabsh or Al-Muaisim.
Two details are easy to miss. First, the minimum stay belongs to the category, not to the trip you’ll actually take: Nusuk says service providers may offer longer stays. Second, the general text on the same page gives slightly different minimums (6 days for Mashair-only packages, 10 for non-shifting, 14 for shifting) from the Standard card, which shows 14 days. When a listing goes live, the number of nights on the package itself is the one that counts.

Shifting vs Non-Shifting
A non-shifting package keeps you in one Makkah hotel before and after the days of Hajj. A shifting package gives you two places to stay in Makkah: one close to the Mashair (Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah) during the Hajj days, and a second, usually near Al-Masjid Al-Haram, before or after them. Nusuk’s own FAQ describes it the same way: “two accommodations, one during the rituals and the other before or after the Hajj period”.
The trade-off is practical rather than spiritual. Both kinds of package include every rite of Hajj; neither label means you skip Mina. Non-shifting means one check-in and one place for your luggage. Shifting usually means a longer minimum stay (14 days on every shifting card) and a move in the middle of the trip, which is worth weighing honestly if you’re travelling with an elderly parent or with a lot of luggage.
- One hotel matters more to you than price: look at non-shifting categories.
- You want more nights near the Haram for a similar budget, and you can handle a move: shifting is designed for that.
- Someone in your group uses a wheelchair or tires quickly: ask how the move between the two Makkah stays is handled, who carries the bags, and on which day it happens.
The Mina Camp Is a Separate Choice
On the Nusuk categories page, all six categories list the same camp line: “Majar Al-Kabsh or Al-Muaisim”. Buying a Luxury package does not, by itself, put you in the closer camp. The FAQ confirms that “packages also vary based on the camps”, and that the platform lets you configure a package, “such as selecting the camp, room types in accommodations”, before booking.
| Mina camp | Distance to Jamarat Bridge | Capacity (Nusuk figure) | What Nusuk says about it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Majar Al-Kabsh | 300–700 m | around 5,000 | “Close proximity” to the Jamarat; “the highest level of service” |
| Al-Muaisim | about 4 km | up to 44,000 | “A distinct atmosphere with all the necessary comforts” |
Swipe to see the full row. Distances and capacities are the figures printed on hajj.nusuk.sa, read on 10 October 2026.
Why the distance matters: the stoning of the Jamarat takes place on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and again on the following days, and pilgrims walk from their camp to the bridge and back each time. From Majar Al-Kabsh that’s a walk of a few hundred meters each way. From Al-Muaisim it’s about four kilometers each way, in May heat, in a crowd. For a healthy adult it’s manageable. For a parent with bad knees, it’s often the single biggest physical difference between two packages that look alike on paper.

Makkah Zones A, B, C and M
Nusuk divides Makkah into zones so that pilgrims can compare hotels by location rather than by stars. In the platform’s own words:
- Zone A: very close to Al-Masjid Al-Haram, “usually overlooking its yards”, within walking distance.
- Zone B: the area around Zone A; still walkable, and some hotels add a shuttle at prayer times.
- Zone C: the largest area of Makkah, “not within walking distance” of the Haram or the Mashair; some hotels run prayer-time shuttles.
- Zone M: close to the Mashair, for easy access during the stay in Mina.
Zone and category are independent. A 4-star hotel can be in Zone A and a 5-star hotel can be further out. If staying close to the Haram is what you care about most, the zone on the listing answers that question better than the category name does. Our article on what walking distance really means for Makkah hotels explains how to turn a distance into minutes.
Rooms, Transport and Extras
You are buying a bed, not a room
Nusuk is direct about this: “Packages will include a single bed in a shared room”, which may be double, triple or quadruple, and some providers may offer single rooms. It also says that “the selection of roommates is not guaranteed”. Couples and families should ask, in writing, how rooming is handled before booking. The room type you choose during configuration changes the price per person.
Makkah to Madinah
The platform gives the distance as about 450 km and says the bus, “the default mode of transportation in most packages”, can take up to 9 hours. Some providers use domestic flights or the Haramain High Speed Railway instead. If the package doesn’t say which, ask.
Extras
Nusuk names SIM cards, Adhahi (the sacrifice) and enrichment tours as examples of additional services that may be included in the price or offered for an extra cost. Read the inclusions line by line rather than assuming.
What Is Published for Hajj 2027
As of 10 October 2026, hajj.nusuk.sa still describes “10 steps closer to 1447 Hajj” and its footer reads “Nusuk Hajj 1447”. The categories page refers to “6 distinct categories for pilgrims this year”, meaning the 1447 season. Nusuk has not published categories, packages or prices for 1448 (2027), and its FAQ says the release date for packages “will be announced later”.
So treat the six categories above as the most recent official structure, not as a promise about 2027. They may be carried over unchanged; they may not. What you can do now is set up your account and choose a preferred category, which Nusuk says helps “streamline access to options” once packages appear. Choosing a category isn’t a booking. Our guide on when Nusuk Hajj packages become available follows the release process, and the step-by-step Nusuk registration guide covers the account itself.
How Our Programs Map to Nusuk Categories
Our own Hajj package names are Platinum, Platinum Shifting, Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver. These are Hisar Tour names; on Nusuk each one sits inside a Nusuk category. As published on our Hajj 2027 packages page in October 2026:*
| Hisar Tour program | Nusuk category | Makkah hotel (planned) |
|---|---|---|
| Platinum | Luxury, non-shifting | Hyatt Regency Makkah |
| Platinum Shifting | Luxury, shifting | Hyatt Regency Makkah, then a Mashair-area stay |
| Gold | Luxury, non-shifting | Rotana Jabal Omar Makkah |
| Gold Shifting | Luxury, shifting | Rotana Jabal Omar Makkah, then a Mashair-area stay |
| Silver | Premium, non-shifting | Sheraton Makkah |

The camp works the same way on our programs as on everyone else’s: the Mina camp is selected inside Nusuk after the package. The binding hotels, flights and price are always the ones on the Nusuk listing you book. And one payment rule doesn’t change between categories: the Nusuk package price is never paid to us. It is paid inside the platform, from your own account, which our companion guide on how the Nusuk e-wallet and Hajj payments work walks through step by step.
Questions to Ask About Any Package
The last question matters because the company on the Nusuk listing is a Saudi service provider, not the US organizer you may be talking to. Our explainer on who really runs Nusuk Hajj packages covers that layer, and the Hajj cost guide for the USA and Canada covers the budget side.

What are the Nusuk Hajj package categories?
For the 1447 (2026) season Nusuk published six: Luxury (5-star hotels), Premium (4-star) and Standard (3-star or residential buildings), each offered with or without shifting. Categories for Hajj 2027 had not been published when we checked on 10 October 2026.
Does a Luxury package guarantee the closer Mina camp?
No. All six category cards on Nusuk list the same camp line, Majar Al-Kabsh or Al-Muaisim. The camp depends on the individual package and on what you select when configuring it, subject to availability.
Is a shifting package a lower level of Hajj?
No. Shifting describes where you stay in Makkah, not which rites you perform. Every category includes the days in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah. Shifting packages give you a second stay near the Mashair during the Hajj days.
Can I choose who shares my room?
Nusuk says packages include a bed in a shared room and that the selection of roommates is not guaranteed, although providers try to accommodate preferences. Ask your organizer how they handle couples and families.
Are flights part of the category?
No. The category is about hotels, shifting and minimum stay. Flights are selected on the platform as part of booking a package, and Nusuk’s FAQ explains the options. Our e-wallet and payments guide covers how that is paid.
