Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from Monday, February 8 to Monday, March 8, with Eid al-Fitr on or near Tuesday, March 9.
The last ten nights are expected to begin on the evening of Saturday, February 27. Saudi Arabia has also published the 1448 Umrah season calendar: the last day for Umrah visa issuance is March 9, 2027, which is Eid day itself. Every date here moves by a day if the moon is sighted early or late.

This guide is for families in the US and Canada deciding whether Ramadan is the right time for their Umrah and, if it is, which part of the month to go. It covers the expected dates mapped to the American calendar, the Saudi rules that only apply in Ramadan, what the crowds really look like, what drives the price, and a booking timeline worked backward from your departure.
Ramadan 2027 Dates and the Last Ten Nights
According to the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia, 1 Ramadan 1448 falls on Monday, February 8, 2027, and 1 Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr) on Tuesday, March 9. That gives a 29-day month. Saudi Arabia confirms both dates by moon sighting, so either can move by a day. If Ramadan runs 30 days, Eid moves to Wednesday, March 10.
An Islamic night begins at sunset on the evening before its date. That is why the 27th night falls on the evening of the 26th day. The Prophet ﷺ told us to “search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). Here are those evenings on the calendar you will actually book flights with:
| Night | Begins at sunset on | Ramadan day |
|---|---|---|
| 21st night | Saturday, February 27* | 20 |
| 23rd night | Monday, March 1* | 22 |
| 25th night | Wednesday, March 3* | 24 |
| 27th night | Friday, March 5* | 26 |
| 29th night | Sunday, March 7* | 28 |

Two US dates matter here. Presidents’ Day is Monday, February 15, 2027 (US Office of Personnel Management), which is about the 8th of Ramadan. If your school district takes a mid-winter recess that week, it falls in the first ten days, not the last ten. Most spring breaks fall in mid-to-late March, after Eid.
The 1448 Umrah Season Deadlines
Ramadan 2027 sits at the very end of the 1448 Umrah season. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah published the season calendar through the Saudi Press Agency on May 17, 2026:
- May 31, 2026. Umrah visas and arrivals for the 1448 season begin.
- June 1, 2026. Umrah permits are issued through the Nusuk app.
- March 9, 2027. Last day for issuing Umrah visas.
- March 23, 2027. Last day for Umrah pilgrims to enter the Kingdom.
- April 7, 2027. Last departure date for Umrah performers.
For a normal Ramadan trip these deadlines are comfortable: your visa is issued weeks before you fly. They start to matter if you plan a late arrival, a long stay after Eid, or a trip timed around a spring break that falls after mid-March. Those plans run into the entry and departure cut-offs, which exist because the country prepares for Hajj.
Which Part of Ramadan Should You Choose?
The honest answer depends on who is traveling. Ramadan is not one experience. The first days, the middle and the last ten nights feel very different on the ground.
| Part of Ramadan | Expected dates (2027)* | What it is like | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| First ten days | Feb 8 – Feb 17 | Busy but workable; Taraweeh crowds build through the week | Families using the Presidents’ Day week; first-timers; elderly parents |
| Middle ten days | Feb 18 – Feb 26 | Still full at prayer times; more pilgrims arrive for the last ten | People who want Ramadan in the Haram without last-ten prices |
| Last ten nights | Feb 27 – Mar 8 | The most crowded nights of the year; long nights of prayer | Experienced, fit travelers focused on worship above comfort |
A simple rule: if anyone in your group struggles with long walks, stairs or standing, choose the first half of the month. The reward of Umrah in Ramadan does not depend on the last ten days. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Perform Umra when Ramadan comes, for Umra in Ramadan is equal to Hajj (in reward)” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1782). Scholars explain that this is about reward. It does not remove the obligation of Hajj for someone who is able to perform it.
If the last ten nights are the goal, plan your cities so that you are in Makkah for them. That usually means Madinah first, then Makkah. Our guide to Makkah or Madinah first explains the trade-offs. We cover what those nights feel like hour by hour in the last 10 nights in Makkah.

Rules That Change in Ramadan
Four Saudi administrative rules shape a Ramadan Umrah. None of them is a religious ruling; they are crowd-management decisions and can change from one year to the next.
In Ramadan 1445 (2024), the Ministry announced that “permits to perform two or more Umrah pilgrimages will not be issued during the holy month”, to ease congestion (Saudi Gazette). We found no newer announcement that changes it. Plan your one Umrah carefully, and confirm the rule in Nusuk before you travel.
In Ramadan 1447 (2026), “the ground floor of the Mataf has been designated exclusively for Umrah performers”, with Tawaf also open on the upper floors according to capacity (Saudi Press Agency). In practice: your Umrah Tawaf happens next to the Kaaba; extra Tawaf later in the trip may be on an upper level, where each circuit is longer.
A Rawdah visit in Madinah always needs a Nusuk booking. In Ramadan 1447, women’s slots in the last ten days ran 6:00–11:00 am only, and men’s slots were 11:20 am–8:00 pm, 11:00 pm–midnight and 2:00–5:00 am (Saudi Press Agency). Outside Ramadan, a permit is generally issued once every 365 days. If the Rawdah matters to you, book it for your Madinah days before you leave home.
In Ramadan 1447, i’tikaf in the Grand Mosque ran from the 20th to the end of the month, with registration through the General Authority’s e-services and a Nafath login (Saudi Press Agency). The 2025 conditions required applicants to be 18 or older and a Saudi citizen or resident. Visitors on an Umrah visa should not plan around a registered i’tikaf place unless the 1448 rules say otherwise.
One religious point often gets mixed up with these rules. Umrah in Ramadan is recommended, not required, and fasting while traveling has its own rulings. The concession for travelers to break the fast is in the Qur’an (2:185). Ask your imam how it applies on your flight day.
How Crowded It Really Gets
Ramadan brings the largest crowds of the Umrah year, and the Saudi authorities publish the numbers:
On the 27th night of 1447, the Saudi Press Agency reported that “corridors, floors, rooftops, courtyards, basements, and the Third Saudi Expansion were filled.” What this means for your trip:
- Hotel distance matters more than stars. The central area fills and roads close to vehicles at peak times. A hotel you can walk from is worth more in Ramadan than any other month. Our guide to what “walking distance” really means in Makkah gives honest minutes.
- You will pray where there is space. Arriving an hour or more before Isha in the last ten nights is normal. Once the lower levels fill, people are directed to the roof, the courtyards and the expansion areas.
- Umrah is easiest late at night or mid-morning. Plan the Umrah itself outside the hours around iftar, Isha and Taraweeh.
- Weather is on your side. Average February highs are about 91°F in Makkah and 81°F in Madinah, with Madinah nights near 57°F. Pack a light layer for the night prayers.

What Drives the Cost of a Ramadan Umrah
Ramadan is the most requested Umrah season of the year, and a package reflects that. Before you compare prices, know what actually moves the number:
- Which ten days. Hotel rooms near the Haram are priced per night, and the last ten nights are the most sought-after nights of the Umrah year. A package that includes them costs more than the same hotel earlier in the month.
- Hotel distance. In Ramadan a far hotel costs you more than money: shuttles run to capacity and roads around the Haram close to vehicles at peak times.
- Flights around Presidents’ Day and Eid. Flights from North America to Jeddah and Madinah are in high demand around the February 15 long weekend and in the days before Eid.
- Room occupancy. A bed in a quad costs less than a bed in a double in any season. Our room occupancy guide shows the math.
- What is included. Ask how meals work in Ramadan (iftar and suhoor rather than breakfast and dinner), whether transfers run at night, and whether an imam travels with the group.
At Hisar Tour, Ramadan departures are priced separately from the rest of the season. As of September 2026 our Ramadan deposit is $2,000 per person (other departures: $1,000), with the balance due 30 days before departure. Ramadan 1448 dates and prices will be listed on our Ramadan Umrah packages page when they are confirmed. When you compare offers from any company, compare what is in the package, not only the headline price. Our checklist on what a quality Umrah package includes helps.
A Booking Timeline for Ramadan 2027
Work backward from the day you fly. This assumes a group trip with a US or Canadian passport:
- Now to December 2026. Decide which part of Ramadan you want and who is traveling. Check that every passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. If you want the last ten nights, this is when to commit.
- 6–8 weeks before departure. Meningococcal ACYW vaccine and any other health preparation. Our Umrah health guide has the current Saudi requirements.
- 30 days before departure. The balance is due on Hisar Tour packages. Visa processing follows.
- 2–3 weeks before. Install Nusuk, confirm your Umrah permit and book the Rawdah for your Madinah dates.
- Departure week. Ihram packed in your carry-on if you fly to Jeddah; you will enter Ihram on the plane before the Miqat. See Miqat for flights from the USA.

Common Questions
When does Ramadan 2027 start in Saudi Arabia?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to start on Monday, February 8, 2027, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. The official start is confirmed by moon sighting and can move by one day.
When is Laylat al-Qadr in 2027?
No one knows the exact night. It is sought in the odd nights of the last ten days. In 2027 those are expected to begin at sunset on February 27, March 1, March 3, March 5 and March 7.
Can I do more than one Umrah in Ramadan?
In recent Ramadans, Nusuk did not issue a second Umrah permit during the month. The rule is administrative, not religious, so confirm it in the Nusuk app before you travel.
Can I stay in Makkah for Eid al-Fitr?
Yes, if your visa and flights allow it. Eid is expected on Tuesday, March 9. The 1448 season calendar allows Umrah pilgrims to depart until April 7, 2027.
Is Ramadan Umrah suitable for elderly parents?
It can be, with the right choices: the first half of the month, a hotel within a short walk of the Haram, and a group that plans wheelchair help in advance. The last ten nights are physically demanding for anyone.
