Ramadan 1448 begins on Monday, February 8, 2027. Eid al-Fitr is expected Tuesday, March 9, 2027, the Day of Arafah falls on Saturday, May 15, 2027, and Eid al-Adha on Sunday, May 16, 2027.
Those four dates carry the rest of the year for most families. Every date on this page was calculated from the official Umm al-Qura calendar and cross-checked against the Fiqh Council of North America; the two agree exactly. Final dates still depend on the moon sighting. Hisar Tour, the Hajj and Umrah brand of the United American Muslim Association (UAMA), builds its departure calendar on these dates and updates this page whenever an official announcement changes one.

This page is the full calendar, not just the headline dates: every observance in Hijri years 1448 and 1449, the Gregorian date and weekday for each, the reason your local mosque may announce a day either side of what you read here, and a planning section for the families who book flights around Ramadan, Hajj and the school breaks. It is written for Muslims in the United States and Canada, so the comparison points are American school calendars and federal holidays.

Why Your Mosque May Announce a Different Day
Islamic dates can differ by one day between communities because Muslims use three different methods to begin a lunar month, and all three are defended by serious scholarship. This is the single most common source of confusion for families booking travel, and it is worth understanding before you buy a non-refundable ticket.
| Method | Who follows it | How the month starts | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Umm al-Qura calculation | Saudi Arabia’s civil calendar; used for Hajj and Umrah scheduling | Pre-calculated astronomically, then confirmed by the official sighting committee | This governs the Haramain, your Hajj dates and Saudi public holidays, whatever your mosque does at home |
| North American calculation | The Fiqh Council of North America and the mosques that follow it | Calculation, on the position that physical sighting confirms a month rather than being required to start one | Dates are published years ahead, which is why this page can give you 2027 with confidence |
| Local or global sighting | Many individual mosques and communities | An actual naked-eye sighting, locally or reported from elsewhere | Can land a day later than the calculated date; the announcement often comes the evening before |
For 2026–2027 the two calculated calendars agree exactly, which is not always the case. The Umm al-Qura calendar and the Fiqh Council of North America both place 1 Ramadan 1448 on February 8, 1 Shawwal on March 9 and 1 Dhul Hijjah on May 7, 2027. A community that waits for a local sighting may still begin Ramadan on February 9 and celebrate Eid al-Fitr on March 10.
The Hijri Months from September 2026 to August 2027
Each Hijri month begins on the date below, and every month runs 29 or 30 days, which is why Islamic dates move about eleven days earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year. Use this table to convert any Islamic date in the period, not only the holidays.

Ramadan 2027: February 8 to March 8
Ramadan 1448 runs from Monday, February 8 to Monday, March 8, 2027, a 29-day month, with the first Taraweeh prayed on the night of February 7. Fasting begins at dawn on February 8 for communities following the calculated calendar. The Qur’an describes the month as the one in which it was revealed, “a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion” (Qur’an 2:185).

For US and Canadian families, February 2027 is unusually convenient. Presidents’ Day falls on Monday, February 15, 2027, which is day eight of Ramadan, so the February school break week sits inside the month. A family that travels that week fasts and prays in the Haramain without anyone missing more than a few school days. An Umrah performed in Ramadan carries the reward of a Hajj (Sahih al-Bukhari 1782), which is why Ramadan departures are the first to fill every year; our Ramadan Umrah packages and the shorter February departures both fall inside this window.
Laylat al-Qadr and the Last Ten Nights
The last ten nights of Ramadan 1448 begin on the evening of Saturday, February 27 and run to the night of Monday, March 8, 2027, with the 27th night falling on Saturday, March 6. Laylat al-Qadr is “better than a thousand months” (Qur’an 97:3), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed that it be sought in the last ten nights (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). Many narrations point to the odd nights, which in 2027 fall on the nights of February 28 and March 2, 4, 6 and 8.

Eid al-Fitr 2027: Tuesday, March 9
Eid al-Fitr 1448 is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, because Ramadan 1448 is a 29-day month ending on March 8. Communities that follow a local sighting may mark it on Wednesday, March 10. Eid prayer is held shortly after sunrise, and Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the prayer, which for a family means arranging it during the last week of Ramadan rather than on the morning itself.
Because March 9 is a Tuesday, most families in the United States and Canada will need to request the day off school and work. School districts differ on whether Eid is an excused absence, and a written request submitted a few weeks ahead is usually granted without argument. Travelers returning from a Ramadan Umrah should plan to land no later than Sunday, March 7, since a Monday arrival leaves no margin if the Eid announcement moves.
Hajj 2027 and the Day of Arafah: May 14–19
Hajj 2027 is expected to run from Friday, May 14 to Wednesday, May 19, 2027 (8–13 Dhul Hijjah 1448), with the Day of Arafah on Saturday, May 15. The Islamic dates never change; the Gregorian dates shift by about a day with the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, announced roughly ten days before the rites begin. Our full breakdown of the schedule, the registration cycle and what to do now is in when is Hajj 2027.

For Muslims not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafah is a strongly recommended sunnah: the Prophet (peace be upon him) said he sought from Allah that it “may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming years” (Sahih Muslim 1162). In 2027 that fast falls on a Saturday, which makes it easier to keep than in most years. Pilgrims travelling from the USA and Canada book Hajj only through the official Nusuk Hajj platform; our Hajj 2027 pre-registration puts you in position for the day packages are released.
Eid al-Adha 2027: Sunday, May 16
Eid al-Adha 1448 is expected on Sunday, May 16, 2027, the first of four days that run through Wednesday, May 19. The Eid prayer is held after sunrise, and the Udhiyah sacrifice may be offered from after the prayer on the 10th until sunset on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. Falling on a Sunday, Eid al-Adha 2027 is the easier of the two Eids for North American families: no school absence is needed for the prayer itself, though the days of Tashreeq run into the following work week.
Islamic New Year 1449 and the Day of Ashura
The Islamic New Year 1449 begins on Sunday, June 6, 2027, and the Day of Ashura falls on Tuesday, June 15, 2027. Muharram is one of the four sacred months and the Hijri year counts from the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah, not from his birth. There is no prescribed celebration for the first of Muharram; the day passes quietly in most communities.
Ashura is observed differently across Muslim communities, and both traditions are long-established. Fasting on Ashura is a sunnah for which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said he sought that it “may atone for the sins of the preceding year” (Sahih Muslim 1162), and many fast the 9th and 10th together. Other communities mark the day as one of mourning and remembrance. Mosques in the UAMA network hold both, and this page states the date rather than a practice.
Mawlid, Isra and Mi’raj, and Laylat al-Bara’ah
Three further dates appear on most community calendars, and all three are observed by some Muslims and not by others, which is a difference of scholarship rather than of commitment. The dates below are the ones on which observance is commonly held.
- Isra and Mi’raj — Tuesday, January 5, 2027 (27 Rajab 1448). The Night Journey and Ascension, on which the five daily prayers were prescribed. Historians and scholars differ over the actual date; the 27th of Rajab is the date on which gatherings are usually held.
- Laylat al-Bara’ah — Saturday, January 23, 2027 (15 Sha’ban 1448). Marked in many communities with night prayer and, for some, a voluntary fast the following day. Scholars differ on the strength of the reports concerning it.
- Mawlid an-Nabi — Saturday, August 14, 2027 (12 Rabi al-Awwal 1449). The birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Some communities hold gatherings and readings of the sirah; others mark the month without a specific observance. The Mawlid of 1448 fell on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The Four Sacred Months in 2026–2027
Four months of the Islamic year are sacred, and three of them fall inside this calendar window. The Prophet (peace be upon him) named them in his farewell sermon: “Three of them are in succession; Dhul-Qa’da, Dhul-Hijja and Al-Muharram, and (the fourth being) Rajab” (Sahih al-Bukhari 4662), and the Qur’an counts them among the twelve months “of which four are sacred” (Qur’an 9:36). In 2026–2027 they fall as follows: Rajab from December 10, 2026 to January 8, 2027; Dhul Qa’dah from April 8 to May 6, 2027; Dhul Hijjah from May 7 to June 5, 2027; and Muharram from June 6 to July 4, 2027.
The overlap worth noticing is the first one. Rajab opens on December 10, 2026, which places the entire American winter school break inside a sacred month — a detail most families planning a December trip never learn, and a reason the December window is more than a convenient gap in the school calendar.
Planning Travel Around the 2026–2027 Calendar
Four windows in this calendar work for families travelling from the United States and Canada, and each one lines up with a school break rather than fighting it. The table below sets the Islamic date against the American calendar so you can see which trip fits your household before you look at any price.

| Window | US / Canadian calendar | Islamic date | What it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving 2026 | Thursday, November 26, 2026 and the weekend around it | Jumada al-Akhirah 1448 | A short Umrah using the fewest school days of the year — see Thanksgiving Umrah |
| Winter break 2026 | Late December 2026 into the first week of January | Rajab 1448, a sacred month, from December 10 | Families travelling together; the longest break of the year — see winter break Umrah |
| February break 2027 | Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 15, 2027 | Day 8 of Ramadan 1448 | Fasting and Taraweeh in the Haramain on a school break — see February Umrah |
| Last ten nights | February 27 – March 8, 2027 | 21–29 Ramadan 1448 | The most sought window of the year — see Ramadan Umrah |
| Spring break 2027 | Late March into April 2027 | Shawwal 1448, after Eid al-Fitr | Quieter Haramain, lower rates, or a cultural tour |
| Hajj 2027 | May 14–19, 2027, before Memorial Day | 8–13 Dhul Hijjah 1448 | Hajj only, booked through Nusuk — see Hajj packages |
If you are weighing a first pilgrimage rather than a specific date, our month-by-month guide to the best time for Umrah compares crowds, weather and price across the whole year, and the December school-break guide covers the winter window in detail. If you are still deciding what the journey involves at all, start with what Umrah is and how Hajj and Umrah differ.
Cultural Tours Between the Pilgrimage Seasons
The gaps in this calendar — spring break, the summer after Hajj, and the weeks either side of Rajab — are when Hisar Tour runs its cultural programs, for families who want a journey with Islamic history in it without the Ihram. These are guided group tours in the same style as our Umrah departures: an imam or qualified guide with the group, Bluetooth headsets, breakfast and dinner included, and pre-departure webinars.

- Uzbekistan — Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Eight days through the cities of Imam al-Bukhari and the great Central Asian madrasahs, with four-star hotels, guided tours and train and coach transport. From $1,200 per person on double occupancy, as listed in September 2026.*
- Al-Aqsa Tour Plus Turkiye — Jerusalem and Istanbul. Four nights in Jerusalem with visits to Al-Aqsa, Hebron and the Mount of Olives, plus three nights in Istanbul. Check the page for the current departure status before planning around it.
- Umrah plus Istanbul. The combination program for families who want the pilgrimage and a few days of Ottoman-era history on the same ticket.
Every one of these runs on the same operational standard as our Umrah groups, and all of them are listed alongside the pilgrimage departures on the Umrah packages page.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does Ramadan start in 2027?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday, February 8, 2027, with the first Taraweeh prayed on the night of Sunday, February 7. Both the Umm al-Qura calendar and the Fiqh Council of North America give this date. Communities that wait for a local moon sighting may begin on February 9.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid al-Fitr 1448 is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, because Ramadan 1448 is a 29-day month ending March 8. Communities following a local sighting may mark it on Wednesday, March 10. Because it falls on a Tuesday, most families in the USA and Canada will need to request the day off school and work.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027 and the Day of Arafah?
The Day of Arafah is expected on Saturday, May 15, 2027 (9 Dhul Hijjah 1448) and Eid al-Adha on Sunday, May 16, 2027. Eid al-Adha runs four days, through Wednesday, May 19. Final dates are confirmed when the Dhul Hijjah crescent is sighted in Saudi Arabia, roughly ten days beforehand.
Why do Islamic holiday dates differ by a day between mosques?
Muslims use three methods to begin a lunar month: the Umm al-Qura calculation used in Saudi Arabia, the calculation followed by the Fiqh Council of North America, and an actual local or global moon sighting. For 2026 and 2027 the two calculated calendars agree exactly, but a community waiting for a sighting can begin a month one day later.
When is the Islamic New Year 1449?
The Islamic New Year 1449 begins on Sunday, June 6, 2027 (1 Muharram 1449), and the Day of Ashura falls on Tuesday, June 15, 2027. The Hijri year counts from the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah.
Which 2027 school break is best for Umrah?
The February 2027 break is the standout, because Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 15 falls on day eight of Ramadan, so a family can fast and pray in the Haramain while missing only a few school days. The December 2026 winter break is the longest and falls in Rajab, one of the four sacred months.
Are these Islamic dates confirmed?
No. Every date on this page is calculated from the official Umm al-Qura calendar and cross-checked against the Fiqh Council of North America, but final dates depend on the moon sighting and can move by about a day. This page is updated whenever an official announcement changes one of them.
*All Gregorian dates are expected dates, calculated from the official Umm al-Qura calendar and cross-checked against the published calendar of the Fiqh Council of North America, which agree on every anchor date for 1448 AH. Final dates depend on the moon sighting and may shift by about a day; Hajj dates are confirmed only by the Saudi announcement. Observance of the Mawlid, Isra and Mi’raj, Laylat al-Bara’ah and Ashura varies between Muslim communities, and this page gives dates rather than rulings. The Uzbekistan price was read from hisartour.com on September 8, 2026, is per person on double occupancy and is subject to change. Last reviewed: September 2026.
